An exercise program for regenerating bone tissue based on Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais' approach to somatic learning which addresses one of the chronic problems of today's western society: the deterioration of bone tissue.

This pioneering work which focuses on the prevention and reversal of osteoporosis is one of five programs under the umbrella of Movement Intelligencewas developed by Ruthy Alon, senior trainer in the Feldenkrais Method®. It was inspired by studies of African women who bear heavy loads on their heads with effortless grace and have only five percent of the bone fractures of Western women - despite lower bone density.

Bones for Life is designed to increase bone strength safely by incorporating the alignment principles of the work of Moshe Feldenkrais. Bone is a living organ, and, like the other parts of our organism, it is constantly renewing itself. The rate of this renewal is determined by demand: the more pressure the bones experience, the more they are stimulated to renew themselves.

Bones for Life is a series of pain-free exercises that, as well as stimulating the growth of bone, promotes elasticity of the bones. Simple tools are used such as a strip of cloth as a wrap and light weights. Many of the movements are done while pushing into the wall in lying down, sitting and standing postures. Pushing the wall with the hands creates a strong connection through the shoulder blades to help coordinate the function of the upper back and the rest of the body. Power is transmitted through the whole body with a dynamic, rhythmic, springy pace equivalent to walking. All the movements are related to walking with emphasis on efficient alignment and posture. Ruthy Alon has taken the teachings of Moshe Feldenkrais and created an enire program that leads to dynamic uprightness more directly, succinctly and with great clarity.

Bones for Life's dynamic movements enable the blood, which carries oxygen, calcium and other nutrients, to penetrate the solid tissue of the bones providing for growth of new bone cells. Bones for Life is suitable for women and men of all ages. The program consists of movement exercises and concepts that you can learn at your own pace and integrate into your daily life. Anna incorporates Bones for Life into her individual Feldenkrais sessions and provides certified Bones for Life and othe Movement Intelligence teacher trainings.
